Johnny Cash/Saul Holiff Book Signing #JRMA

Come and meet author Julie Chadwick, and get her to sign a copy of her new book, The Man Who Carried Cash

The Man Who Carried Cash details the little-known relationship between Johnny Cash and Saul Holiff (a Londoner), who oversaw every aspect of Cash's career (and much of his personal life) for more than 13 years. They had a remarkable, fascinating relationship that was at times both volatile and affectionate and is extensively detailed through a vast archive of materials that were found in a storage locker after Saul committed suicide in 2005. The contents of the locker included hundreds of personal letters, audiotaped diaries and phone calls, original photos, gold records, clippings, booklets and posters.

Saul lived in Chadwick's hometown of Nanaimo when he died, and she was then the entertainment editor at the Nanaimo Daily News. She came across the story when Saul's son Jonathan completed a documentary about his father in 2012 called My Father and the Man in Black.

The documentary will be screening at 7 pm after the signing, at the London Music Hall. Click here for details.

Please take a moment a look at this. Our friends need your help. They are good people and essential to our community. They've been unjustly hurt and I am very mad about it. Please show your support, either by going in and buying a bunch of books or supporting this GoFundMe to help replace their window.

Film Festival!

kids_movies-Cropped-1.jpg

We are very pleased to share that on March 31st we will be holding our first ever literary film festival at our shop!

Good friend Sebastian DeTrolio (collector of 16mm movies, local superstar and all-around amazing person) will be on-hand all afternoon and deep into the evening with selections from his mammoth personal collection of original movies and documentaries screening films in our very own spooky basement! We are ecstatic about this and are very glad to have him here.

Sebastian will be bringing original films on (among other lit subjects) William Faulkner, b.p. Nichol, Beatrix Potter, Maurice Sendak, A.M. Klein, Mordecai Richler, W.O. Mitchell, Lorraine Hansberry, Emily Dickinson, and Dylan Thomas). So essentially to us this is the coolest thing in town.

Also to accompany this rogue's gallery of literary superstars we'll be having a 25% off sale on all Literature all day and night. So pile up on those books of poetry to impress your girlfriend/boyfriend m'dears.

Also, since it is Easter weekend we will also be having an Easter Egg hunt in the bookshop all day as well as free MINI-EGGS available to ALL WHO COME! So thank you for making the time to visit.

Hope to see you there!
